Jamila Wang is one of Singapore’s most influential and outstanding Oriental Dance artiste. Since the age of 8, she was trained as a piano player and acquired an acute skill for musical rhythms and timing. After immigrating to Australia at an early age with her family, she studied Business Administration at the University of South Australia, where she graduated with a Master’s Degree at the top of her class. She currently resides in Singapore.
Jamila has traveled to the original lands of Oriental Dancing in Egypt and Turkey where she trained and studied with Dance Masters. Believing in learning from the best; Jamila travels extensively often to integrate new and innovative elements into her dance style. Over the years, her unique style has gained tremendous popularity and is often followed by other dancers. She has over 135,000 Facebook fans and followers to date.
Her previous audiences included former Speaker of Parliament and current President of the Republic of Singapore Mdm Halimah Yacob, past President of Singapore the late Mr S. R. Nathan, former President of Singapore Dr Tony Tan, the late Founding Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Emeritus Senior Minister Mr. Goh Chok Tong, and many other prominent Ministers, business and local leaders. In the last 10 years, Jamila frequently devotes her time and energy to help the less fortunate through charity work and performances.
2017 - Jamila raised $370,050 in charity funds at the 2017 World Belly Dance Festival for Sian Chay Medical Institution.
2016 - Jamila raised $112,000 donation at the World Belly Dance Festival for Sian Chay Medical Institution. The funds were used to help the needy and less-fortunate.
2013 - Jamila participated in China’s “So You Think You Can Dance”, attaining the highest viewership during that season. Commented as having the face of an angel, and a figure to die-for, she also received praise from judges Yang Liping and Guang Xing. In the same year, she also appeared in China CCTV’s largest and most popular Live Show ”舞出我人生”, and was the first to introduce Oriental Dancing to television variety shows in China, Vietnam, and Singapore.
2013 - Jamila was the only Asian participant to ever win TWO professional-level world belly dancing championships at Istanbul, Turkey, and awarded the prestigious title of World Belly Dance Star.
2010 - Jamila was the first and only instructor to be invited to conduct a series of 16 Oriental Dance lessons on Mediacorp Channel 8, Good Morning Singapore.
2009 - Jamila was designated as Singapore’s Golden Flower and participated in cultural exchange with other ASEAN countries.
To date, Jamila has performed over 100 shows every year and has been invited to teach and perform all over the world, including Budapest, Turkey, Egypt, Korea, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and many others.
